Burned Cookies

Wednesday night, 8 PM. We’ve all had our dinner. The boys are back to their headquarters (read: bedroom) and Jimmy is in the living room focusing in his usual youtube session, which covers more about politics in our country, not an entertaining watch for me. So I move on to the kitchen to wrap up my work for tonight that is dish washing.

That’s when suddenly a burst of new energy kicks in. Either that or my undiagnosed ADHD or me just being a Gemini, but the next thing I know I stand in front of the fridge and start to taking out the drumsticks, peanut butter, chocolate chips, galangal paste, garlic paste, lemongrass paste, ginger and lime leaf. It’s not weird combination I promise!

I just want to make an Indonesian style of chicken marination and chocolate cookies. Yes, it’s so random. I know. But I don’t feel tired at all. Now THAT is weird. For someone whose favorite resource is take out or delivery, deciding to make TWO types of food in the night time makes me think that I am possessed.

Luckily that is not the case. The drumsticks have been thawed since yesterday so I need to marinate it for the next day lunch box. The cookies…well, let’s just say that I have been wanting to taste this recipe of chocolate cookies using only 3 ingredients: banana, peanut butter and chocolate chips. I saw someone made a tiktok video about it and I think that is the easiest chocolate cookies recipe to try out.

But here’s the thing: sometimes I can become very creative and highly initiative so instead of using JUST 3 ingredients I add 2 more, which are 2 tablespoon of flour and 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder. In my mind these add-ons can make the cookies crunchier and with a tint of dark-chocolaty flavor (if you know what I mean).

Everything runs smoothly for the half part. Of course my chicken marination is a success like always. But when it comes to baking, it’s another story.

We have a very basic oven. This was bought few months ago when we were furnishing the house and to save some money I chose the least expensive one. So when I say basic, it means it doesn’t have the temperature control.

With that in mind, I leave my cookies in good faith when I finally put them in the oven. Can you guess what happens?

I set my timer for 10 minutes. Turns out it’s too long. 5 minutes in, I can smell something is burning. I peek in my oven, and yes my cookies are burned. Still edible, but burned.

As I leave the cookies for cooling down I realize that they are not crunchy. They are soft and tasted just as good as I want them to be: not too sweet and dark-chocolaty.

I am going to practice more on how to navigate my oven and perfecting this cookies recipe. But for now, let me just enjoy my burned cookies with a cup of black coffee because apparently they match very well.

PS: Let’s connect on the other side

Itupun hadiah. Mau beli kompor yg canggihan dikit, tp dipikir2 aku ga suka baking. Mood membaling itu biasa muncul 1 thn sekali doang.

jadi rugi kalo beli kompor yg canggih.

memang lebih mudah masak biasa drpd be-bakingan
