Why would I lie for something like that, one must wonder. But before you judge me any further, read me out because the reason is not that deep.
No, really.
It’s just for my convenience. Also to save times.
You see, this is not my first time moving to the UAE. The first time was almost 14 years ago and ever since, every time someone ask me about it to this day, even about this time around, I would simply say that I am moving to Dubai.

For over a decade Dubai has been the “IT” destination with the glorious Burj Dubai towering up and endless breathtaking stories (some even crazy) about the rich lifestyle. The life there is just too shiny that almost every one living this earth would want to catch a glimpse of the blings. There is no wonder that when the name UAE dropped into a conversation, the word Dubai would certainly follow.

So I have been too tired to explain that the UAE was not only Dubai, that there are 7 emirates, yet most people at home would only recognize Dubai. Many of my conversations would go down like this:
Friend: “Where are you moving to?”
Me: “Ras Al Khaimah”
Friend: “Oh where is it? Arab Saudi?”
Me: “No, it’s in the middle east. The United Arab Emirates”
Friend: (Staring cluelessly)
Me: “One hour from Dubai”
Friend: “Oooh Dubai!”
After sometimes, I would simply reply like this:
Friend: “Where are you moving to?”
Me: “Dubai”
Friend: “Wow, that’s nice!”
Can you see how much time I save there to just say Dubai?
Well, I wouldn’t say it’s a lie. It’s just technical. Because I AM moving to Dubai _ only 106km further.
PS: Let’s connect on the other sides!
